1000’s of Kamala Harris supporters will rock Chucks and Pearls on inauguration day

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are sworn in as President and Vice President of the United States, respectively, on January 20. In honor of Harris' historic victory as the first black woman and the first woman of South Asian descent to be elected Vice President, thousands of her supporters will wear their classic Chuck Taylors and a pearl necklace on Inauguration Day.

Thanks to the Chucks and Pearls Day Facebook page on January 20, 2021, which currently has more than 75,000 members, plans were made for the first time to emulate the style of the soon-to-be Vice President. "We love our new Vice President … We want women from all walks of life to honor her by wearing chucks and pearls on the day of her inauguration," the page description reads. Now, one day before the election, #ChucksAndTaylors is trending on Twitter and we're already browsing our closets for our favorite pairs.

Pearls have been one of Harris & # 39; s signature accessories for decades and hold a special place in her heart. As a former member and lifelong supporter of Alpha Kappa Alpha – a member of the Divine Nine and one of the oldest historically black sororities in the country – Harris wears the pearls likely in honor of the sorority's founders, also known as "Twenty Pearls," and in solidarity with theirs To represent sisters. She was mostly seen wearing the pearls when she was sworn in as a U.S. Senator by then Vice President Biden when she announced her offer for the U.S. President and during her acceptance speech on November 7th.

As for the opposite? Harris has been rocking sneakers with her outfits for as long as he can remember, according to Doug Emhoff, husband of the elected vice president. "You know, I grew up with Chucks. I just love them. They're comfortable," she said in a recent interview with CBS News Sunday morningEmhoff added: "When I met her, it was Chucks and jeans."

It's clear that Harris has a game to remember, and given that the inauguration will be a virtual event this year, wearing chucks and pearls in her honor feels like the perfect way to celebrate while country stay at least three feet apart.
