Blachowicz wins and holds Adesanya’s bid for 2 belts
Jan Blachowicz spoiled Israel Adesanya’s attempt to become second division champions at the same time and unanimously made the decision to keep his light heavyweight title at the main event at UFC 259 in Las Vegas.
The judges scored the fights 49-46, 49-45 and 49-45, all for Blachowicz.
Adesanya, who has been UFC Middleweight Champion since October 2019, attempted to hold titles in two divisions at the same time as the fifth fighter in UFC history. The others were Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier, Henry Cejudo, and Amanda Nunes, who are still keeping a couple.
Blachowicz (28-8), 38, won the vacant light heavyweight title with a second round TKO against Dominick Reyes at UFC 253, the same card Adesanya led against Costa. The native Pole started a winning streak with four fights, three of them by KO / TKO.
Adesanya (20-1) started with two title defenses on Saturday, including a dominant TKO in the second round against Paulo Costa at UFC 253 last September. Adesanya, 31, has won nine straight wins in the UFC since making his debut in February 2018.
