Emma's outfits in The Promenade have been made to "combine the boy with the lady" and you’ll love all of them

Netflix The prom, released December 11th, brings us not just a star-studded cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep, Kerry Washington, Andrew Rannells, James Corden, and Hollywood newcomers Jo Ellen Pellman and others Hamilton& # 39; s Ariana Debose, but also a coveted plot from the Broadway show of the same name. Ryan Murphy is behind this film adaptation, so we expected all that high fashion glitz to meet a refreshing reality of hilarious jokes – this is what Murphy is known for. He worked with his longtime costume designer Lou Eyrich on the design of the cloakroom. (Eyrich also outfitted the characters for Murphy & # 39; s pose, American horror story, and joyto name just a few of their well-known projects.)

We spoke to Eyrich about what it was like to work with the incredible cast and crew and coordinate their looks as, as you are about to see, there are many rainbow moments to pay homage to the LGBTQ + community and the Pride flag . Small spoiler: Our favorite is Washington's Gucci dress, which she wears as Mrs. Greene to her daughter Alyssa's prom. But Alyssa (DeBose) and Emma (Pellman) are the real fashionistas. Emma strips off most of her clothes, mixing masculine and feminine details, and tossing random accessories together to show she's not afraid to express herself, while Alyssa crosses the line between the college cheerleader in pink, a look that expected her conservative mother from her and confident queen with sequins.

We can trace Emma and Alyssa's relationship throughout the film with many bold fashion moments that Eyrich Murphy's team and the original Broadway crew that inspired everything wrote back about. "The entire team has come together to create this big, sparkling Hollywood movie vibe, from the production design to the hair and makeup to the camera and props. Kudos to them for their great work," she said . Eyrich dismantles the key costumes in front of us The prom exclusively for POPSUGAR and explains their meaning.
