OnePlus confirms that they’re making their very own smartwatch

A few years ago it became known that OnePlus had tried to create its own smartwatch. The company designed one but ultimately decided to ditch the idea and instead focused on their smartphones. This was a few years ago when OnePlus was still a bit new to the scene.

Back then, it made sense for the company to focus on its core products first before branching out. Now maybe it seems time for OnePlus to look back at previous projects. In a post published on Twitter, Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, confirmed that the company is (again) making its own smartwatch and that it will be released early next year.

Many of you have said you wanted a watch, and as you may have heard over the weekend, we are making one due out early next year. Wishes come true. ????

Lau doesn't mention the specs or the timing of the device's release, but if we had to guess, it could debut alongside the OnePlus 9, which is also slated for an early launch in 2021. We're not sure if the company's smartwatch will use Google's Wear OS platform or if they might plan on using their own software. So it will be interesting to see how this works out.

We're also not sure how much the watch could cost, but hopefully OnePlus will stick with its budget roots and not make it too expensive.
