On Saturday, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris joined a long list of women to use fashion as a political statement. In her victory speech after becoming America's first female vice president, she wore a head-to-toe outfit that included a Carolina Herrera pant suit, a Tory Burch bow-tie silk blouse, and her signature pearl jewelry. (No, the fact that these are brands founded by women is probably no accident.)

White has long been associated with the women's suffrage movement, which began in the 1840s and aimed to give women the right to vote (which didn't happen until 1920). Women wore white dresses with white sashes in election parades. White symbolized purity and they also wore purple to represent loyalty and gold to represent hope. It is also a particularly topical homage, because 2020 will be the 100th anniversary of women securing the right to vote. Scroll down to repeat some memorable nods in suffragette white.
