With this little change, my nails went insanely quick

Confession: I did something bad. I peeled off my gel manicure. Instead of attaching a professional cotton ball soaked in acetone with aluminum foil to my fingers to gently loosen the polish, I manually picked and peeled until my once-beautiful mani was strewn in tiny piles on my coffee table. Sigh.

I am not proud of my actions. As someone who has worn gel for the most part for the past five years, I know better than anyone that I broke the cardinal rule. Peeling off the solid polish in this way will also remove the top layer of your actual fingernails. So if you give in to the urge, they can be flaky, weak, ridged, and broken – all the things nails aren't supposed to be and all the things that keep these babies from reaching their full-length potential. To get my nails healthy again, I'm officially taking a break from my beloved gel manicure. Honestly, my nails are so much happier for that.

I used to justify my gel habit by pointing out that the solidified polish made my nails stronger and allowed to grow longer than if they were bare. Now I'm switching gears to focus on adding topical nutrients, hardeners, and moisturizers to regimes to get the same results.
